How To Find Balance In Life: Finding The Secret Harmony Your Parents Never Taught

Today I will be presenting a safe and effective way on how to find balance in life and achieve lasting harmony. Lately I have been inspired by the Life Makeover Coaching that I have been going through. I thought I would share some valuable incite I have gained after nearly 2 years of life coaching.

I will be discussing how to find balance in life, moreover, I will be discussing why I also believe this is not something you will ever be taught at school or by conventional education.

I also believe that few if any adults, mothers or fathers actually understand some concepts that I will be discussing.

The idea that life is composed of different categories is a bit simplistic, but it is no less true in light of a complicated lifestyle.

All of us know that there are areas of our lives that needs work, but do you know what each of those areas are, how to improve in them, and why it is so crucial to do so?

Let’s get right into this…

How To Find Balance In Life Using The Life Categories

The Primary Life Balance Categories are:

  • Money/Finance
  • Business & Career
  • Relationships
  • Personal Environment
  • Recreation & Play
  • Health & Wellness
  • Service & Contributions
  • Personal, Spiritual & Professional Development

Each of these “Life Categories” are part of my weekly growth. Each week I work on one of these categories and make a small but immediate improvement in my life. Harmony is only attainable when every area of my life is in sync.

I believe that the small actions are overlooked in our lives in favor of the bigger ones. At least it’s that way for me anyway. As a guy, I know I value things based upon their monetary worth, time spent on them, and by how much influence those things give me.

A good example of this would be going on a vacation cruise vs. going to a nice restaurant. Both are good, but the cruise takes the cake for me. Unfortunately, this mentality can actually get me in trouble.

On a side note, I am amazed that some people are the complete opposite, they value quantity over quality. They would rather have a hundred tiny gestures than have 10 big sized ones.

Not black and white here, just saying that different people value different things. Personally, I’m a quality over quantity type of guy, but that’s just me.

Why Are They Important?

If we ignore one area of our lives in favor of another, we can get ourselves in very bad situations. How To Find Balance In Life - Man covered in sticky notes pulling hair

Here are some common examples:

  • Bread winners become workaholics thinking their work is more important than spending time with their families. (Carear/Job vs. Relationships)
  • We become so focused on everyone else’s problems that we forget to make time for ourselves (Giving & Contributions vs. Recreation)
  • We focus so much on our physical health but neglect our spiritual time. We lose sight of who we truly are, believing we are only these bodies. (Health & Wellness vs. Spiritual Life)
  • Etc.

These examples may or may not apply to you, but I think you get my point. Every area of our lives is important and neglecting any of them can be detrimental in more than one way.

How Can I Balance Them All?

Balancing takes some give and take. It requires patience, and a willingness to do what you say, when you say it. I can be determined to do something, but not committed. This is the biggest problem with any type of self-improvement.

Balance requires something else to, Accountability.

If you have ever been in the army, you already know how accountability works. In the event that you have ever worked at a retail job, or any job, you already know how accountability works. If you went to school and had to turn in a report, you know exactly what accountability looks like.

People coming alongside you to elevate you to a higher standard. It’s not enough for me to acknowledge that I need help, at some point I actually need to reach out and ask for that assistance.

The easiest way is to simply work on each of these life categories every week. Creating something better than balance, “Harmony”.

How Will My Life Improve?

First off, I would just like to point out that some of you think you have it all together and that you are doing just fine in your life. I’m sure there are those reading who also think that every one of the above categories is “A-Ok”, and that there is no reason for them to work on those areas of their lives.

Well guess what? Every single person who says that is wrong! I should know because it is exactly what I thought before I started life coaching!

Sure I thought I was a little rough around the edges and needed to work on a few things in my life, but it’s not that bad right!?

“Every man is his own worst enemy.” Christina, Queen of Sweden

The reality is that we are all looking at ourselves through the rose-colored glasses, seeing exactly what we want to see. We don’t criticize ourselves because we don’t want to, and if we are hard on ourselves, it is usually unfounded and does not help us improve.

Life will improve in ways you didn’t think possible when you start taking time for the insignificant. When I first realized that different areas of my life needed regular attention, it was like a light bulb had just gone off!

The “Rose Colored Glasses”

Not only that, it really took those phony glasses off and allowed me to see what I had overlooked:

  • I was lazy! I wasn’t doing what I said I would do in several areas of my life.
  • My room (Environment) was cluttered and disorganized.
  • I’d neglected to make time for my siblings and family. (Relationships)
  • I had only halfheartedly working on my business, achieving minimal results.
  • I had the wrong mindset about nearly every area of my life.

Do I still struggle with these things from time to time? Sure, but I have improved in these areas and have overcome any obstacles regularly. Thanks to my life coaching and accountability. I will never be done with self-improvement, but that is one of the beauties of being human, it’s a life-long journey fully of joy and accomplishment!

The True Secret To Harmony

As I mentioned before, the secret to harmony is to work on yourself in every way and to simply do it. However, this is pointless, in light of one other key factor:How To Find Balance In Life - Eyechart and looking through glasses

What I mean by this, is that without a firm understanding of what I want and where I want to be, all of this is for nothing. Harmony mean nothing because I don’t know what it looks like.

I could spend years working on every area of my life and never feel like I have achieved harmony.

Also, why would I feel that I had achieved something when I don’t know what it feels like?

This is another crucial piece of the puzzle that my coach goes over with me in my life coaching. Understanding the following has become so common place that I sometimes forget it’s significance:

  • Why I want something.
  • What it is I really want.
  • You will understand what it will feel like when I have done something.
  • Why I haven’t achieved something and what it will take to get it.

Again, each of these questions is part of something called, “Harmony”. Something defined by what I want for my life, and who I want to be today. The dictionary does not define my life.

In Conclusion

The idea that life is as simple as getting up, going to work, eating, drinking, having sex, sleeping, and repeating, is simply not true!

There is more to life than money, clothes, people, places, possessions, dreams and goals. There is God, and he didn’t make us like animals with no goals and self-aware thoughts. We are intelligent, and with that intelligence, comes the responsibility to grow into the incredible people we were always made to be!

Glad you picked up on that! I am a strong advocate that God should be the center in one’s life, but I feel that anyone can be successful financial and achieve their goals if they will take the time to create greater clarity in their lives. Thanks for the comment!
